In July 2004 father and son, Karl and Bent Ziegler from the Black Forest Region of Germany were guided by Errol Mason at Watervalley Game Ranch. The following pictures encapsulate their 10 day hunting adventure there.

Trophy sambar stags proved very difficult to locate so when this one was spied from afar Karl Ziegler was decisive.

He wanted that stag.

After a short stalk Karl harvested it with a quick 150 metre shot using a 30/06 and a 180gn Remington Corelokt.

Literally hundreds of Red stags were seen but proved to be elusive.

Eventually Bent harvested this heavy 13 pointer.

Rusa were in rut and many were seen which enhanced the experience.

Finally Karl took this typical stag after an exciting stalk.

Karl and Bent with Bent's Rusa which we initially passed up before deciding it was the one he wanted.

Problem was it took us three days to find it again and then it immediately vanished and Bent was lucky to have bagged it.

Bent with this fine Rusa stag taken after a long stalk.

Chital proved to be worthy quarry and continually eluded us until Bent harvested this lovely specimen after a challenging stalk.

After some much more impressive Chital had eluded Karl, he took this fine representative example on the last evening of hunting at Watervalley.

Karl took this 13 point Red stag with a 250 metre shot resulting in an instant kill.

Bent harvested this nice Fallow after a long stalk, but did not see the large Sambar that also appeared out of the nearby bush. Had he seen the Sambar I think the Fallow would have been safe.

In the grounds of the accommodation at Watervalley, Karl takes delight in preparing Bent's Fallow for shipping back home to the Black Forest .

With much help from Karl and Bent, the capes and antlers were deposited at the shipping company with the required quarantine certificate before I took them to the airport.
