are highly prized trophies and make magnificent life-size
mounts.

ABOUT DINGOES
The dingo is the Australian native wild
dog and experts consider that the Indian Plains Wolf is
its most likely wild ancestor. It is a medium-sized canid
with males from Victoria’s Lakes and Wilderness
Region weighing around 25kg. Dingoes hunt singularly or
in small packs and prey upon kangaroos, wallabies, the
various species of deer, rabbits and other small creatures.
In grazing country they are notorious sheep and young
cattle killers.
I have seen dingoes working fallow deer
which they frequently prey upon and I have found the carcasses
of sambar deer calves which had undoubtedly fallen prey
to them. In Queensland dingoes prey heavily upon Chital
and Red Deer and herds of Chital are known to live near
the homestead so as to avoid predation by these marauders.
TROPHY QUALITY
Dingoes are highly regarded for their
beautiful yellow/ginger or black and tan pelts and they
make a fine life-size mount.

BEST
TIME
Dingoes can be taken year round but
their pelts are at their best from late March through
to October.

HUNTING METHODS
Dingoes can be lured to the gun by imitating
a dingo howling and by a predator call.

SUCCESS RATE
Renowned for their cunning and elusiveness,
the success rate on dingoes is not high, although many
are seen and passed up rather than risking ruining a chance
at a stag or a buck.
