Armed with knowledge gleaned from Errol’s course, this time around I had planned to hunt completely differently to how I ever have before. On this specific morning, by applying the overlays I had learnt on Errol’s course, I knew where the deer were going to be and when they would be there.

Within 56 minutes of my hunt, this magnificent Stag stepped out from the exact area where I thought the deer would be coming from. With the help of my safari sling, I was able to draw my rifle off my hip quickly and with minimal movement and one shot from my Browning 30-06 and a single Barnes 150gr TTSX was all it took to drop this Stag in his tracks from just 8 metres. I learnt more during this course than I did in 5 years of chasing Sambar around the bush, and I can now clearly see how predictable Sambar behaviour can be.
